Chapter 11: The Friend

I don't know why, but I can't shake the feeling that I am being watched. I am going to find out why!  I sat in the clearing and started to eat some berries. I heard a rustle in the bushes.

“Freeze,” I said, shooting an ice blast from my crystal.

I walked over to the bushes and looked in them.

“Maya? What are you doing here,” I asked, melting the ice.

“I followed you,” she said.

“ I know that, but why,” I asked.

“Because you told me not to,” she told me.

“I have missed you,” I said, hugging her.

“I know let's go save your sister,” she told me.

“But you don’t have a crystal to protect yourself with,” I said.

“Yes, I do! Watch,” she said.

I moved over, and she shot a blast of water at a tree.

“You have one too,” I said, “Come on and help me save my sister!”

“If we are going to save her, we need to sleep and eat,” she said, giving me a sandwich, “Eat that and then go to sleep, and we will start tomorrow.”

“Wait, how did you get your crystal,” I asked.

“Let's just say the mermaids didn’t see me coming and their leader has a few missing teeth,” she replied.

Classic Maya!  I thought, drifting off to sleep.

Chapter 12: The Cave

I woke up to Maya sleeping very soundly. I really missed Maya, that's for sure.

“Maya, wake up, we have to keep going,” I said, waking Maya up.

“Ok,” she said sleepily.

We ran up the mountain. We are almost there. I can feel it.

“We are really close,” I told Maya.

We ran faster and faster up the mountain until we came up upon a giant cave. We began to creep into the cave when something grabbed me and Maya and we got knocked out.

Hours later we woke up. Where are we? Wait, who is that? My vision was still blurry from when I got knocked out but finally my vision came into focus.

“LILLY! You are here,” I said.

“Shhhh, I am here but you don’t want to wake the dragon,” she whispered.

“Ohhh, so it was the dragon that knocked me and Maya out. Wait, speaking of Maya, where is she,” I asked.

“She is down there and the dragon stole her crystal. Her crystal is down there in the corner but she is about to be cooked and eaten,” she told me.

“Well I can just use my ice crystal,” I said.

“No you can't, he stole your crystal as well,” she said.

“Ugh, is there anything this dragon didn’t think of,”I said looking up.

That’s it!

Chapter 13: The Rope

That’s it! The cage is hanging from the ceiling by a rope.

“I know how to get out. I will use my pocket knife to cut the rope,” I whispered.

I climbed up the cage side and used my pocket knife to cut the rope. When I was done SLAM! The cage slammed down on the floor waking the dragon. I quickly untied Maya as the dragon ran towards us. Me and Maya grabbed our crystals and Lilly and ran towards the exit and I froze the door over and we ran down the mountain. I looked back and I saw him burn down the ice wall. We dove into the bush and he flew overhead. What is that? I thought, looking at his neck. He flew back into his cave. It was a fire crystal! That must be why his flames are so strong!

“He has a fire crystal,” I told them, “He will probably still be a danger unless we get it.”

“You are right. We could get it for Lilly so that you have ice, I have water and she has fire,” Maya said.

“ I want to come,” Lilly said.

“Ok we'll sneak in at night,” I said.

“Yeah, just get some rest,” Maya told her.

Chapter 14: The Plan

Maya and I stayed up late that night planning how we were going to attack the dragon and escape safely.

“We should sneak up on it when it is napping and-” before I could finish my sentence Maya finished it for me,

“-Slip off the gem on its neck,” she said excitedly.

“Exactly,” I said, “But we need a diversion once we get the gem to distract him so we can escape.”

“Don’t forget we have to use Lilly in the plan,” she told me.

“Lilly… That is it! We will have her make the diversion by pushing rocks down the hole in the roof while we take the gem and escape. Then we can go grab Lilly and go back home,” I said.

I hope this will work because if it doesn't we will be dragon food!

“This will work,” she said, almost reading my mind.

“I know but I am just scared.” I told her.

“It is okay. We got this! Just pretend we are playing the game we made to try and steal my older sister's necklace,” She told me.

“Let's get some rest,” I suggested, “We will need energy for tomorrow.”

And we drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 15: The Defeat

As soon as I woke up I saw Lilly waking up Maya and she had a mouthful of leaves. It was a cloudy day which was perfect. This will be perfect for sneaking up on the dragon. I looked up at the cave and there was a grayish blackish cloud of smoke coming out of the cave. I must have rained that night because my clothes were wet and there was fog all over the ground. Maya was talking and the dragon was growing. I started to space out.

Then Maya yelled at me. “ROSE WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR BREAKFAST,”

“Whatever we have,” I said.

I grabbed the rocks and helped pull up Lilly. It was hard because our clothes were wet and it took way longer than I expected.

“We will go down there and when we call your name push these rocks down,” I told her.
