A Very Squirrely Wedding
By Caroline M and Kathryn W
Prologue
About a month after our camping trip, Storm and India announced their engagement and that they were getting married in 2 months. And now their wedding day is only a few days away.
Chapter 1 : Invitations
Storm, India, Lumi, Lumin, and I (Lumi and Lumin are twins) were all working on invitations for the wedding in the squirrel house (which we had turned into a studio). “So. Many. Invitations.” Said India. “You got that right.” The twins said in sync. “I know there’s a lot of invitations, but we’re nearly done,” Storm said. After a few more minutes we finished all the invitations. “Yay, we did it!” Squealed India. Ok, I said, Moving on we have decorations to prepare. “But first a snack break,” said Storm, and we all laughed. We had been so busy lately preparing for the wedding, that time seemed to whiz by. After a long while of working, we had finished our checklist of things to do today. And everyone headed home.
Chapter 2 : Invitations Again?
At 7:36 am Me and the twins all joined a video call with Storm. “Why are you calling us so early?” Asked Lumin, while rubbing his eyes. “Someone ruined all of the invitations!” India said panicking. “What!?” Me and the twins said in unison, now fully awake. “See!” said Storm, turning the camera. We saw ink spilled over all of the invitations we had made the day before. There were knocked-over ink bottles all over the table, calligraphy pens scattered across the room, and even the decorations were ruined with ink and big rips all over them. How could this have happened? I said. We installed a door when we turned it into a studio! “Someone must have known where the spare key was!” Storm said, with a crying India hugging him. “Now what will we do? The wedding is tomorrow!” Said India between sobs. I know! I said. I’ll make invitations on my computer and print them, then cut them out. “Really?” India said hopefully. Really. I said. “But what about the decorations?” Said the twins. Hmm, I think I have some leftover fake flowers from an art project so, maybe we can turn those into decorations? I said. “Yes!” squealed India, who had stopped crying. OK, I’ll drop the flowers at the studio and get to work on the invitations. I said with a determined look on my face.
Chapter 3 : Mission Improvise
I scrambled to find a Chromebook and got to work on the invitations. Meanwhile, the others arrived at the studio and started turning the fake flowers into new decorations. I took a photo of the invitation I had made and texted it to India. Look good? I texted. “Yes!” India replied with 3 exclamation marks. I printed the rest of the invitations and put them in my little backpack. I quickly switched into a squirrel, grabbed my bag, and headed to the studio. “You’re here!” Storm said happily. I dumped my bag on the floor and helped them finish the decorations while the twins delivered the invitations. “We’re done!” Said the twins, returning to the studio panting. “Okay, how about I keep the extra key for now?” Said India. I think we can all agree on that. I said. It was getting late, so we all headed home.
Chapter 4 : Wedding Day
I woke up and got ready to go help set up for the wedding. I also got my bridesmaid dress and put it in my duffel bag with my makeup bag. Then I headed to the studio in a little van to pick up the decorations. When I got there, the twins were already there putting decorations in boxes. I helped pack the rest of the decorations and load them into the van. Lumi sat up front next to me and Lumin sat in the back, securing fragile boxes. I drove to the clearing by the creek where the wedding was held. A few other squirrels were there helping set up. I pulled up on the edge of the sidewalk and we all started unloading the decorations and putting them up. About an hour later, Storm and India arrived. Neither of them was wearing their wedding outfits but both had duffel bags slung over their shoulders. They started rehearsing while we unpacked the last of the decorations.
Chapter 5 : The Ceremony
It was nearly time for the wedding to start and everyone was getting ready. I went into the bathroom, changed into my bridesmaid dress, and put my makeup on. I walked over to where the other bridesmaids were waiting to go. India was also there but she was crying. I was about to ask what was wrong when I saw a big rip in her beautiful wedding dress! “What will we do?” she said between sobs, “The wedding is about to begin!” It’s OK, I said holding up a sewing kit. I figured the person who wrecked the studio would strike again, so I brought this. I said, giving her a hug. I quickly stitched up the long rip and helped her fix her makeup. I squeezed her hand and said, You’ve got this girl. Then Lumi left to go stand at her place then, Olive and Skippy followed. Good luck. I said as I followed behind the rest of the girls. When I got to my place as the maid of honor, I saw Lumin, Major, Fishtail, and Frankie standing in a row next to Storm. Then, India came walking down the aisle in her beautiful dress. She whispered, “Thanks!” to me as she turned to Storm. They exchanged vows and kissed but suddenly, There was a loud Boom, and confetti started to rain down everywhere! India and Storm looked at each other in terror. Another Boom went off, spraying Storm and India in glitter! “Ok, It’s time for the reception now,” Storm said nervously to the confused guests. We all were out of the ceremony area just as we heard yet another, Boom, go off.
Chapter 6 : Crashing the Wedding
Everyone ran as fast as they could (considering we were wearing fancy clothes) to the reception area, only to find tables, chairs, and food toppled over! And in the midst of it all, was Ares! “Ares, I should have known,” Storm said, gritting his teeth. “Surprise!” Ares said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “Why did you even do this!?” India yelled, sounding furious. “Because I’m bored, you all have been so busy with this wedding that there was nothing for me to do,” Ares said, sounding almost hurt. “Well we didn’t know, we thought you would be busy pranking people,” Storm said. “I had prankster's block and texted you guys so many times but I realized there was a prank just lying there waiting for me to do; your wedding,” Ares said with an evil smirk on his face. Just then Lumi stooped over and picked up a handful of smashed cake, threw it in Ares’ face, and yelled, “FOOD FIGHT!” Everyone joined in, even Marella, who hated getting messy. The whole food fight ended when we ran out of food. “Hey, where’d Ares go?” Said India, who had cake all over her. “He must have snuck off in the food fight,” Storm said, glaring at Lumi. “Ok I think the wedding is over now,” I said while trying to get cake out of the inside of my dress. “Yeah, I think it is.” Said India. So, everyone left covered in food, laughing, and trying to get the food off them.
Until next time, - Caroline
