A Very Squirrely Camping Trip

By Caroline M and Kathryn W

Prologue

About 8 years after the first adventure, me and the squirrels are still hanging out, exploring, and pranking my brother; and now we want to go on another big adventure. And that is just how this story starts.

 Chapter 1 : Camping!

I was hanging out with Storm, India, and Ares. We were all bored, there just wasn’t much to do.

“Do you want to prank people?”Said Ares.

“Nah”, we all said.

“Find cool new trinkets?”, asked India. “Maybe,” we all said.

“What if we go camping?”, asked Storm.

“Yes!” We all said.

I know the perfect spot. I just have to tell my parents, I said. So I scurried home, changed back into a human, and told my parents. They said yes and gave me a little backpack, a small tent, and a GPS tag so they could find me. Then, I went and asked my brother to get his toy boat and come down to the creek. I switched back and brought the stuff out with Isaiah behind me. We went down to the creek, loaded our things, and climbed aboard the ship.

Chapter 2 : Setting Sail

We started down the creek and sailing was smooth. Suddenly, a rock came into view! “Ahh!” Squeaked everyone. Quick everybody to the left side of the boat! I yelled over the panicked squeaking. Everyone did as they were told and we narrowly escaped the rock. After a while, we finally arrived and we anchored the boat to the shore. We headed to our campsite and set up. Storm gathered twigs for a fire while India set up our sleeping bags and tents. And Ares started to get the food ready. We finally got a fire going and roasted some nuts over the fire. Then we told some spooky stories and went to bed.

Chapter 3 : A Sinking Feeling

We woke up with the sun shining in our eyes through the tent wall. We all got up and made breakfast, toasted pecans. We sat down on a picnic blanket India had brought and ate our breakfast. Ares went off saying something about getting water. We just shrugged and said okay. A while later, when we were collecting more nuts we heard ;

“Help, I'm stuck!”

“Hey, that sounded like Ares,” said Storm.

“He’s probably just playing a prank,” India replied.

I don’t think he’s kidding this time, he sounds scared. I said. “Let’s go check just in case he really does need help,” said Storm. We all walked to the creek and saw Ares stuck in quicksand!

Chapter 4 : The Squirrel Who Cried Help

Stop! I yelled when the others rushed forward, you could get stuck too! Ares don’t fight it and try to get on your back. India watched Ares while I and Storm found a stick.” Everybody did as I ordered and we quickly got Ares out of the quicksand. “Backfired prank?” India said sarcastically. Ares looked down sheepishly as he said yes. OK, how about no more pranks, I said.

Fine”, Ares said, sounding defeated. “Come on, let's head back to camp.” Said Storm. We started back to camp and it was getting late. “Hey, didn't we just pass this tree?” Said India sounding a bit frightened. I think we did, I replied with growing concern. Storm pulled India close and held her hand. She gave him a slight smile.

Chapter 5 : Lost!

Let’s look for something familiar. I said. We all looked around. After several agonizing minutes we looked up when Ares said “There!”.We looked to where Ares pointed and saw two crossed logs. Go Ares! I said, giving him a high five. Everyone quickly scampered to the logs. I sat on one and thought, trying to remember which way to go. This way! I said, hopping off the log. After a few minutes, we made it back to camp.

“Finally!” India squeaked. We quickly ate dinner and went to bed.

Chapter 6 : Sailing Back and New Knickknacks

I woke up to India shaking me saying, “Storm isn’t here!” I sat up to see Ares still sleeping but Storm's sleeping bag was empty. We snuck out of the tent, leaving Ares snoozing in his sleeping bag. And what we saw outside of the tent was amazing. Flowers decorated our camp and a small fire was going. And right there on one of the benches around the fire, was Storm. He motioned for India to come. She walked over and sat down on the bench next to him. “India, will you make me the happiest squirrel and marry me?” “Yes!” India cried with a both shocked and overjoyed look on her face. Just then, a very sleepy Ares poked his head out of the tent and said, “What’s all the noise about?” India was still speechless so I told him what happened. “Oh, okay.” Said Ares, and then he came out of the tent. We had breakfast and admired the flowers everywhere. After we finished breakfast, I said, All right, time to pack up. Everyone got to work gathering their things and putting them on the boat. Then we put out the fire and climbed onto the boat. We sailed back and remembered to avoid the rock. After a while, we arrived unloaded our stuff, and went back home. I put my stuff away and changed back into a human then went to go get the boat. I brought it back and as I was going inside, I saw Storm and India talking to each other, holding hands. Probably about their wedding, I thought to myself and smiled.
